Topic: "Factors Associated with Falls Among People Living with Chronic HIV: An OT Approach" (1.5 CE Hours)

SpeakerAmber Armstead, OTR/L, DrPH

Course Description:
This discussion-based presentation will re-introduce the dynamic role that occupational therapists play in the lives of people affected by HIV when attempting to reduce and prevent falls.  As HIV is now a chronic disease, people living with HIV face the challenges of aging at an accelerated pace.  Occupational therapists offer a unique perspective to individuals with this disease. Using principles of both occupational therapy and public health, individuals with HIV can maintain their quality of life while aging with this disease. This discussion will offer useful strategies to combat the factors associated with falls among people living with HIV. In addition, the participants will gain helpful strategies to address these issues with patients in a variety of therapeutic settings.

2. Understand the factors associated with falls among people living with HIV
